Western-style Ranch Destination Wedding in Montana
Montana, with its beautiful and rugged landscape, became the perfect canvas for Sam and Kevin’s destination wedding weekend. As their photographer and videographer, we found ourselves immersed in two days of unique and intentional wedding events against the stunning backdrop of the Big Sky Country.
Day One: Wedding Day at the Ranch
The wedding festivities commenced with Sam and Kevin preparing for their big day. Sam’s mom helped her get ready at a nearby hotel while Kevin got ready at a small cabin at the ranch. After Kevin was ready for the day, he helped their son get his boots and cowboy hat on, fitting for a ranch wedding. Then Kevin’s brother came in and they pulled out customized flasks before sharing a quick drink. Sam and Kevin then had their first look under a big tree, which provided a quiet, private moment to help calm those last-minute wedding nerves.
The ceremony unfolded in a large pasture with a rustic flowered arch, surrounded by the towering mountains and pines. Their son served as the ring bearer and the couple exchanged vows.
The reception, held under a pavilion, was a laid-back affair featuring dinner, wedding speeches, and lots of laughter. We took a small break during the reception to stroll amidst the horses in the horse pasture, and as the sun set we took in the views and visited some of the horses, some of them curious enough to follow us around. Later on, we spotted a black bear slowly meandering through the horse pasture and neither horse nor bear gave a bother to each other’s presence.
To continue the reception festivities, Sam & Kevin cut the cake, and the cake-cutting took a bit of a playful turn. Kevin couldn’t resist a mischievous cake-smearing, in which Sam retaliated with a good cake smash to his face.
The first dances took place beside the pavilion under the expansive Montana sky, providing a calming and beautiful moment under the stars. It was a perfect ending to their wedding day.
Day Two: Exploring Glacier National Park
The adventure continued into Glacier National Park the next day. We met in the park and then took off down a trail we had scouted out before. We explored several waterfalls, the rush of water and mountains in the distance creating a surreal moment for Sam & Kevin to experience.
As the day’s explorations of hidden waterfalls and secluded trails ended, the sun began its descent. We strolled towards a meadow where the setting sun bathed the entire landscape in a gentle, warm glow. In that tranquil setting, Kevin picked up his guitar and sang for Sam, filling the air with a soft melody that harmonized with the sounds of nature. The raw beauty of their connection against the backdrop of nature’s masterpiece, music floating through the last light as the sun fell behind the mountaintops.
Sam and Kevin’s Montana destination wedding was less about orchestrated grandeur and more about embracing the unfiltered beauty of their connection. The photos captured tell a story of genuine moments, untamed landscapes, and the unscripted love that blossomed in the heart of Montana.
